Densities can be computed from spectral measurements (that's how
spectral instruments do it internally). I'm not sure what tools are out
there to do it though. The basic principle is the same as computing
CIE tristimulus, except that you use the density filter curves
as your color matching functions. There are some Excel spreadsheets
out there somewhere that do this (I seem to recall correcting the
filter co-efficients on one of them, some time ago).
