Sure, I can develop a "scaling factor" to use on the original
images, but that's far from ideal
Thats what I did in the last 10 years of LFP on nearly every machine
(Nur Blueboard, Vutek UltraVu, Vutek Fabrivu, Nur Fresco, Mimaki,
Encad Novajet except e.g. the HP Designjet 5500 PS which has a built-
in-correction).
Use your developed scaling factor to distort the files in your RIP
and be happy.
Even on a Vutek Fabrivu it is nearly impossible to get the right
scaling on Knit-Canvas after hotfixing the colors.
Why should it be far from real? Do you prefer emailing and calling
hotlines again and again, wasting hours of time instead?
I received an e-mail from Irena Moskalenko at ColorByte this
morning. Irena did the appropriate testing and discovered that
within the ImagePrint RIP, you can use the Media Feed Adjustment
setting to adjust the length of the print.
On a 44 inch print on canvas using the Epson 9800 that she has at
ColorByte, the print was .4 inches shorter than the layout dimension
of 44 inches. Setting the Media Feed Adjustment to +70 corrected
this. There is a negative adjustment that can be used to make the
printed image shorter, if necessary.
According to Irena, she does not have any documentation on the Media
Feed Adjustment slider and was told by their developer that he simply
plugged in the feature that is available for this printer and is part
of the Epson native driver as well. Epson didn't provide ColorByte
with any information on this feature, and unfortunately Epson is not
very clear on this feature in any of their documentation.
To her credit, Irena went out of her way to find a fix to this issue
for me, and the root problem is really more of an issue with the
printer than the ImagePrint RIP. It is certainly much cleaner and
easier for me to be able to adjust the printer for a specific media
via the RIP, rather than have to scale all the images I print. Kudos
to ColorByte.
Steve, I no longer have the Epson driver installed. You might look
carefully and see if you can locate anything like the Media Feed
Adjustment.
