I know there are some very qualified professionals in the field of color
printing and management on this list so I'd be very grateful for your
opinions on the following configuration.
The purpose is to set a commercial lithographic printer up with digital
proofing.
Here are the specs:
Printer Espon 7800 (w/ Ethernet card)
Rip Colorburst Prepress
Spectro Eye one with auto table
Harware Dell Poweredge 2900 server (for rip)
My understanding is that the Colorburst has built-in profiling but I
have no experience with it. Is it a good software? I'd appreciate any
feedback before ordering this. Info on this rip is at:
http://www.colorburstrip.com/cbprepress.html
I can't really tell from Xrite's site if the $1995 is just for the table
or if it's a combo with an eye one. Can anyone advise? Would this be
compatible with the Colorburst profiling s/w? The info is at:

(sorry for the line break)
The Dell comes with Windows 2003 server OEM version. I'm choosing this
so I can have their Rampage rips mount the hot folder from the
Colorburst and drop a CT into it. My only reservation is no SCSI. I've
long preferred SCSI over ATA or IDE but is this system as fast?
I chose the Colorburts prepress instead of the Espon Pro bundle for two
reasons:
1) Ability to have the hot folder anywhere I need (possible even on
another server)
2) The "nesting" feature so if several small proofs need be made they
can be arranged on the media.
Possible other options are Onyx Rip Center or Wasatch Epson only. Both
are cheaper but I'd need to by profiling software which would add more
than the difference.
Thank you for your assistance.
