I was in the same spot two weeks ago, with my Mitsubishi (NEC) 2060u.
I wanted another CRT, but as has been noted by several contributors
here, the higher-end CRTs are no longer being made, and Andrew Rodney
has found and bought all of America's remaining Sony Artisans. An
hour or so of checking various websites came up empty, so I went to
eBay, searched "Computer monitors" for 21" CRTs, restricted the
results to within 200 miles of my city, and found three, the best of
which was a LaCie electron 22 blue IV. The description indicated it
was virtually the same as my 2060u, and the seller replied that it
was brand new, and had been sitting in the box for almost two years.
Bidding was to end the next morning at 10:25, so by 10:15 I had three
windows open (one for the main listing; one of current bids; one for
my own bid). The high bid at that point was $201.50. With about :45
left, I submitted a max bid for $362.62, confirmed it, and was
immediately "told" I was high bidder. Clicking "refresh" on the
current bids window showed another bidder going to $225, then $250,
then $300, then... Auction ended. I'd won it for $305.
Two hours later I was picking it up, and two hours after that it was
installed and I was up and running. I profiled it that evening, and
it's been working fine ever since. The controls are almost identical
to the old 2060u, the screen is exactly the same size, and the $305
is a dream-come-true for this quality of monitor.
If you do find something near you on eBay, you can pick it up to
avoid shipping costs (and time). In any case, decide on your maximum,
and wait... and wait... ... ... and then bid it with less than a
minute to go.
Good luck,
Don

My 17" NEC MultiSync FP912 CRT is dying. Oh well, I was never
really in love
with it anyway. I need to replace it soon so I donĀ¹t lose a day of
work when
it finally crashes.
I have a limited budget since I'm self employed and don't have a
big shop
budget. I do strictly photo editing - no video, games or whatever.
Fast is
not crucial, color accuracy is, for sending out to print shops, or
printing
on my own Epson 2200.
