Yes but not all of them are of identical quality.
I do agree in this case, there's one NEC SpectraView unit being built (not
some special hand picked unit at a higher price mated with software and
hood).
But I don't agree that some OEM that has the same panel at a lower price
necessarily has the identical quality or that every panel built is identical
to a spec the manufacturer has that varies within a bell shaped curve.

I don't know about this idea of a differing firmware. But to be clear, based
on my understanding from NEC, a SpectraView display without a hood and
colorimeter is the same quality of SpectraView with. You as the end user get
to decide what bundle you want. What LaCie or someone else gets probably
isn't the same.
I didn't get a 2690 with hood or Colorimeter yet I am running the
SpectraView II software.
