Herman,
Regarding the Eizo:
BTW, according to Eizo website the CG241W includes an S-PVA panel.
When
doing a product comparison on Dutch Eizo site it says S-IPS. Doing the
exact same comparison on the German website it says S-PVA?
I've also seen IPS mentioned on other websites.
According to http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php: 24 inch 6 ms
(g2g) S-PVA
(Samsung LTM240CS) panel.
Thanks for the link. I did some digging. This panel seems to be an S-
PVA. Regardless, S-IPS or S-PVA are both excellent quality panels.
You can find pros and cons for each, but what's more important is how
they are integrated into the monitor electronics. For this reason I
think EIZO is a great choice. A Samsung manufactured S-PVA panel
could look great in an EIZO display but absolutely terrible in a
Samsung display! It's important to understand that the panel is not
the main consideration, it's just one of the criteria. I believe that
EIZO is trending toward the S-PVA panels because you can achieve
better contrast and deeper blacks. Their electronics compensate for
the minor deficiencies inherent in current S-PVA panel technology
such as uniformity and brightness to the point where it's not an issue.
Anyway, I finally made up my mind and decided to go for the Eizo
CG241W.
Good choice. I'm very happy with mine. Looking at an RGB scale from
0,0,0 to 10,10,10 I can easily see the 2,2,2 step. I have this
monitor set up next to my old workhorse high end CRT (a Mitsubishi
DiamondPro 2070SB) and both are calibrated with an Eye One Pro and
the differences are barely perceptible. For me the advanced
electronics justify the higher price tag. Over the years I've done
high-end retouching and color work on Barco, PressView/Mitsubishi,
and SONY CRTs. This EIZO is an improvement on those older standards
(as it should be) and truly makes LCD a real-world technology.
Unfortunately, there are too many terrible LCD monitors on the
market, making it difficult to decide how best to spend one's money!
