There are other possible causes too for poorly-performing profiles, besides
a bad colorimeter.
People calibrate and profile displays using matrix profiles, whereas I
advise that one create LUT-based profiles. Also, many people use "easy"
modes in the software instead of the more precise and powerful "expert"
modes, where available. Others leave the displays with very high luminosity
(I've seen upward of 300 cd/m2 in some cases!), too high possibly, which I
believe increases the errors within the profile itself, which are inherent
but can be reduced, among other things, by lowering luminance to more
"normal" levels (140-160 cd/m2 max for LCDs). And so on.
