What are you using for a reference? If you use multiple instruments
and they each produce a different visual "cast" then it sounds like
you do not have good instrument consistency. However, if all of
your instruments produce the same cast, they may be very
consistent. In addition, they may be "accurate" with respect to
the standard observer.
In my case I've calibrated the same display with a large number of
devices all using the same software and target values - and have done
so over a period of time. I have also calibrated a large number of
displays with a few devices. When I see one device that is visually
performing substantially different than the rest I know I have a
problem with that device. The magenta cast I'm talking about with a
bad EyeOne Display is rarely very slight - anyone with a critical eye
would say "whoa, what's wrong here".
I have walked into client studios before, taken a look around at the
monitors and have correctly suspected a bad eye one in less than a
minute. A few calibrations with good colorimeters I carry with me
confirms it. A quick examination of the LUT curves shows an
inappropriate reduction of the green white point that LUTs made from
other devices don't have. What's worse is that the same device
exhibits poor repeatability over a relatively short period of time.
It's especially disheartening since so many people have purchased
these on my recommendation.
