Preview seems to know something about profiles -- source, monitor,
printer -- but I haven't found a way to change profiles for it.
You don't need to change profiles for Preview. If the image has an
embedded profile then that is used to match the image to the display's
profile. The display's profile is set in System Preferences - Displays.
I'm assuming you have one display since you have an iMac, right? If
you have an external display then it's possible Preview is matching to
the other display. Launch ColorSync Utillity, go to Devices, twist
open Displays to show all displays connected to your machine. The one
with the blue dot is the one used for matching, and you can change
which one has the blue dot by clicking "Make Default Display".
It's a remote possibility that a 3rd party app has set the system
profile to be something other than your default (blue dot) display
profile. If you want to verify that the system profile is the same as
the display profile run this in Script Editor and look at the result
tell application "ColorSyncScripting"
get system profile
get display profile of display 1
end tell
those should be the same if you have one display.
