Got to work on a couple of 319's and 320's lately and, boy, have I been in
for some surprises -- no offense to current LaCIE owners. The more I used
these monitors and the more frustrated I became : it's as though these LCD
displays have a mind of their own -- nothing I tried worked. For example,
cranking out contrast or brightness barely resulted in an increase of
luminance. I tried the various presets labeled "N", "P" and sRGB, plus the
user defined 1,2,3 and 5 settings but I can't say I suceeded at anything.
Usually when adjusting individual RGB channels, luminance is invariable
affected -- but not here. There must be some active "smart" circuitry that
limits the total light output irregardless of user selections in the various
OSD options. I was also dismayed with the BlueEye Pro application itself,
very crude package if you ask me. No choice of gamma. No input fields for
custom chromaticities, no options for target luminance, I felt in a barren
land. So much so that, come to think of it, I fail to see what attract some
buyers so much to these two particular boxes (that aren't exactly cheap,
btw). The user manual didn't turn out much else over and above what's shown
on the various OSD screens.
