Both considering that the display's TRC is closer to 2.2. And again, outside
an ICC aware application, all bets are off.

Vague is no good. Intuitive is. The term simply isn't understood by this
audience. Show them a picture, do it automatically, something. But doing
down the same old path isn't useful, and that's primarily my point.
The software works. Well at least I think it does, I can't use the so called
final version. I'm not suggesting users can't calibrate their displays, I'm
suggesting X-Rite really didn't do the job the could have done, especially
based on their own definition of the market.
