Thank's for the clarification.

I don't feel there is anything "natural" about a given choice of gamma at
the OS level either. Either you believe that, for the good of mankind,
Microsoft and Apple (and whoever else) shall decide on the fate of an
OS-independent gamma function or you believe that, utilimately, that
decision better rests with the user.

Which camp are you in?
