There's actually not a whole lot of difference between the natural CRT gamma of 2.4, and the L* curve. See figure 2 on page 10 of this: <http://www.poynton.com/notes/PU-PR-IS/Poynton-PU-PR-IS.book.pdf> for an illustration.
