Exactly. The worst that can happen is that there are diminishing returns, meaning that the extra effort no longer produces a proportionally rewarding improvement in results.
You can test it for yourself, if hyou can spare the time: if sampling 4,000+ patches does not produce better results for you than those you get from, say, 1,700 patches, then you have no need to spend the extra time, ink and paper to print and measure more patches. In this instance, the results would not be *worse* by sampling 4,000+ patches: it's just that the extra game would not be worth the candle for you and the type of work you do.
At any rate, there would certainly *not* be a *worsening* of results. Just less time and resources for other endeavors, with no appreciable gainss.

Yes, though that would be a tradeoff in favor of convenience, more than a choice due to quality gains.
