An interesting problem I've encountered making profiles for a desktop
scanner (EpsonExpression 1600), using ProfileMaker 5.0
The reference images and screen shots are in a PDF here:
http://www.bobrock.com/POTN/ScannerProfile.pdf
In this instance, my scanned target is Kodak IT8 Q-60R2, with a version
number of 2006:08.
My screen shot of PM, page 1 of the PDF, shows my correctly chosen reference
data of R2200608.Q60 and the scanned image of the target, in the screen shot
called Kodak2.tif, and on page 2 of the PDF, is also correctly identified.
But the first strange thing here is that if you look at the screen shot, the
reference data thumbnail shows the grayscale wedge at the bottom, but if you
look at the scanned image thumbnail, it shows a color bar. That's NOT in the
image! Don't know if that's an issue, but then when I scan something and
apply this profile, it just looks HORRIBLE. Something is obviously wrong.
Thinking it was the reference data that might be corrupt, I downloaded again
and still the same. I even tried using various other targets that I have,
all from Kodak, all the same result. The scan was made with all color
management turned off. After importing via TWAIN interface into Photoshop, I
did nothing to the image, and saved it as a TIF with NO profile of any kind.
Now, and this too is strange, it appears that when I use a Hutch target, the
profile seems to work fine.
Any thoughts? I even uninstalled and reinstalled PM5 but to no avail.
Display profiling seems to work fine, haven't worked on any new printer
profiles yet though.
Thanks,
Bob
