Edmund,

A year or two ago, I had the chance of testing a deutch package called
ProfileProphet. It supported the Avantes Spectrocam and only used, if memory
serves, 40 some patches. I didn't follow it up but it was promising. So, can
profiles built from low patch counts? I'd say why not. There's all kind of
good color modeling approaches out there, from modified Neugebaeur to this
ProfileProphet (if it still exist?), to, now, the Munki Design, and, to be
fair, ColorVision print profiling. Heck, at one time, there was RIT's own
Profile-80. Supposed to have been quite down but marketing was not RIT's
forte so the product fell into oblivion...

Oh! Didn't Argyll created output profiles at one time from as low as 60
patches?
