Don,
Is calibrating to a viewing booth chromaticity all that much better than
calibrating, say, to D50 chromaticities? Is it "measurably" better? Anyone
sitting in the driver seat can see the improvement?
I seem to remember that, at the time the ISO-12646 standard was drafted and
voted, a few years ago, by Tony Johnson et al, viewing booths were around.
It can be argued that the authors of the standard could have chosen the
route of calibrating monitors to some viewing booth chromaticities, yet,
they didn't. What has changed so much, in your opinion, between the time the
standard was written and today to make you advocate calibrating to viewing
booth chromaticities? An argument that could become moot when you think of
JUST-Normlicht LED viewing booth, I realize.
This being said, how does your statement bear on IDEAlliance Monitor
Certification Program? Since the certification program is based on D50 and
the big softproofing players (RemoteDirector, CGS, MatchprintVirtual,
Veripress) all use D50. As far as I know.
Regards / Roger
