Make a PDF/X file with a destination profile in the Output Intent and view it in Adobe Reader 9.

I tried searching for this issue and came up empty. Sorry if it has been discussed before, but can anyone outline the steps necessary to get the "Softproof using embedded profile" feature of the Mac print preview menu to truly match the softproof I see in my tried and true PSCS3. Since the feature allows no direct choice of rendering intent, I assume that it has a default rendering or looks at the profile tag. I also realize it won't have BPC. Yet no matter what rendering intent I choose in PS, I can't get a match. I've tried both image files with profiles embedded by PS and files where I used the Mac Preview app and its "match to proflle" function and then checked "softproof using embedded profile", but I can't get a match. Is softproofing in the Leopard OS a crippled feature or are there some system settings I have overlooked?

I'm trying to find low cost soft proofing alternative to PS on the Mac platform for friends who want to output to my printer but don't have PS.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Mark
