Hi Roger
I got a Spyder3Print and already profiled some paper I have.
I decided to try then with a picture of my son laying on the snow. I
proof the profile on screen and looked perfect, however when I try to
print the picture, then choosing the profile (Aperture is managing the
color) on the ColorSync Profile list I saw that the picture on the
preview acquired a yellow color cast.
I also did the same trying with Photoshop Elements and happened the
same.
Just when I try on PSE and the printer is managing the color, the
pictures is perfect. In Aperture the results when the printer is
managing the colors is similar as when Aperture manage them.
It is important to mention that previous to decide that the printer is
managing the colors, on the ColorSync Utility I changed the profile to
the printer under devices.
I really do not know what is happening, at the begging I though it was
the paper, I though that the paper distributed here in Switzerland by
HP would have some variations to the one they used when creating the
profile, now when I created my own profiles I really do not know.
I really do not thing that the printer has the problems, because I see
the picture, under the printer preview, changing the color as soon as
I select the profile.
Do you have any idea what could it be?
Many thanks
Daniel

Daniel,
Usually the canned profiles shipped with desktop printers perform
better
when Photoshop does not get in the way -- go figure. It has to do
with the
internal processing of those drivers and there is little you can do
about
that. Hopefully a custom profile will help. It all depends to what
extent
you are successful in disabling *all* color management at the driver
level.
Believe me, sometimes it's pure hell. Some drivers behave better than
others. When they do, custom profiling works just great. Depends on
a host
of factors not necessarily under one's control like the driver's
design. I
gather the latest generation of Epson printers drivers are better in
this
respect than what they used to be in the past. Canon's were always the
easiest for custom profiling. HP? I'm not sure. Maybe it's a
function of the
'class' of printer? I can remember one series of desktop HP printers
I used
once where they had a true 'no color management' option in the print
options. But if that option does not exist in your driver then you
may not
have the final word on color in your print stream.
Hang in there!
Roger

Hi Roger
Unfortunately not yet, however I ordered a Printer Profiler so I'll
try getting a new icc profile and then see.
Many thanks for asking.

Subject: Color cast when printing
Hi, I have a problem that I'm trying to solve since I have Aperture
2.x I've search everywhere and done everything, however it seems
that
something is missing or wrong.
I've calibrated my iMac and using the icc profile. It's saved on
Library > ColorSync > Profiles > Displays and I also checked that
is
set as the current profile.
I have a HP Photosmart C5180 and have installed the icc profiles
for
all the types of paper produced by HP for this printer. The
profiles
are installed on Library > ColorSync > Profiles.
What I don't understand is why when I'm selecting either in
Aperture
or Photoshop Elements that the application is the one that manages
the
color and then on each application I select the profile for the
kind
of paper I'm using on my printer, then the picture shows and prints
them with a color cast. Even when I'm proofing on the screen and
select the profile I will use when printing.
Strange is, that when I select on PSE that the printer is the one
that
manages the colors, then I get "perfect" prints (using the same
tactic
on Aperture doesn't work, it produces darker prints).
Does anybody knows what it might be?
Thanks
Daniel
