Who needs sacking ? Each tech geek says "here is a test which checks
that my system is running", and publishes that part. Then when a
failure occurs one can pinpoint if a previously working part has gone
on vacation.

As an example, prior to embarking on a major upgrade of his software
Mr. Gutenprint (Robert Krawitz) showed how this can be done for
printers, that the engineer can build in a function to checksum the
printstream from a standard test to canari whether the print system
has been damaged.
