"Calibration matrix"? As in "correction matrix" perhaps?
Yes, I've heard it referred to by both. Basically I was referring to a
"purpose built/tuned" colorimeter.
If
that's what you're refering to, the only such animal that
approaches this concept is Eizo's ColorNavigator v5
instrument-specific correction matrix.
My question was regarding "tuned" colorimeters specifically, but yes,
I should open it up to software correction matrices as well, since the
matrices matching the monitor spectra to the measurement device could
be included therein as well. Thanks for reminding me of that.
I, personally, have
not ran across any monitor/instrument bundle. But wouldn't
the LaCIE BlueEye calibrator or the NEC SpectraView or the
defunct SONY Artisan/Sequel fall into that category?
Exactly. I'm wondering how many options are available out there where
the colorimeter is tuned to the specific display's source primaries,
either by a built in matrix in the measurement device, or by software
for a particular
measurement device/display combination. Common sense would say that
this would be most accurate method of profiling a display next to
using a spectroradiometer. Of course limitations of the display may
still lead to less than perfect softproofing results (gamut
limitations, uniformity issues, ect).
