Robin,
These are fascinating insights.
One trick the SWOP monitor certification comitee has come up with is to
leave the EyeOnePro hanging in front of the LCD monitor for an hour before
taking any measurements. That sure is one way to try to work around the dark
current fluctuation limitation of the EyeOnePro. But, ideally, like you
pointed out, a shutter ought to be used in front of the lens to take a dark
current reading before each dark measurement. I know that would lengthen the
measurement time by a factor that many readers on this List wouldn't just
find acceptable but that's exactly what the Jeti Specbos1200 is doing. In
fact, to measure the darkest element of a monitor, this instrument, probably
much like the Photo-Reseach and Minolta spectroradiometer, can take as long
as 120 seconds : 60 seconds to measure the dark current itself , with the
shutter on, and another 60 seconds to measure whathever little light there
is to measure, and, of course, subtract one by the other to find the actual
light measurement. It's all about cooling down the CCD to keep noise at
minimum like you say.
Maybe the next generation of EyeOnePro?
