Producing a full color coffee label for a client of ours that is going to be
printed on a HP Indigo Press.
In trying to get pre-press information from the printer (first time working
with them) on how to set up the CMYK image for their presses at first they
could only tell us that it should be CMYK and not RGB!
After explaining that there are many different ³flavors² of CMYK
everything from Newsprint to Offset Coated all with their respective TAC,
Black generation, etc.
They came back with that I should get a Pantone Color Bridge book
(previously Pantone Solid to Process) to see how their press ³Prints²
Well that¹s great I suppose if one is only working with PMS spot colors
but since our artwork contains a full color not so useful...
But this brought up some questions I have for the list-
For those you have worked with the HP Indigo presses what CMYK working
space would be best suited for converting my image to?
They did tell me that they do a calibration prior to producing a press proof
not sure yet if that is a ³full calibration² or a ³short² one, and that
they do not manipulate the color on press for individual jobs which to me
sounds as if they keep the press in a somewhat ³calibrated² state.
We currently use ORIS Colortuner software to produce our own certified
proofs (normally ISOCoatedv2) - and was planning on setting up the proofer
to produce a certified proof for this job if I knew ahead of time what
printing standard would most closely match the HP¹s
Another HP Indigo vendor I¹m considering for this job indicated they use the
US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 for their pre-press.
Also
Curious what kind of CMYK working space (Gracol, US Sheetfed Coatedv2, etc)
would be the closest to the way Pantone prints their Color Bridge (Coated)
guide books?
