RE: Calibration of laptops with additional monitors
I have not heard that it is necessary to "disconnect all external
devices" I have heard it suggested that it is best to turn off one
monitor in a dual monitor setup. Having said that - I don't; and the
results do not seem to be any different one way or the other.
"adjusting luminance, for one is a real issue." That I have see and
agree with. The brightness adjustment on our Apple Cinema Displays
varies between much too sensitive in the middle of the range, to not
sensitive enough at either end. The good news is that Eye1 Match (the
version we use is 3.6.2) has been changed for the better and minimizes
the problem. Once I get the brightness right, and I usually stop when
the window indicates I am high by 0.1, the software takes over to finish
the profile.
If there's another site (other than this one!) that addresses these
issues and stays current with them I haven't found it.

I am a D.C. based photographer working in Asia this year. So, instead
of my Eizo, etc. I am working with a 15" MacBook Pro laptop, a 20"
Samsung SyncMaster 204B and a bunch of 500 GB Seagate USB drives. I
am finding that calibrating is very awkward, particularly the two
screens from the laptop. I have found no comprehensive site
describing procedures - neither Apple nor xrite (I have an eye one
and eyeone match 3 with me) have a good description of procedures. I
have read that one should disconnect all external devices before
calibrating, which I hadn't thought of, but adjusting luminance, for
one is a real issue.
Can anyone direct me to a site which deals with these issues?
Thanks. Sheppard Ferguson
