After giving some more thought to the above statement I would contend that
it is not a succinct definition of a gamut alarm.
Rather I think it would be a concise description for a new kind of alarm,
say one called a "Color Alarm".
The following use cases will hopefully clarify my point.
1) Colorimetric Rendering Intent; Out-of-Gamut color
* Gamut Alarm: flag RAISED
* Color Alarm: flag RAISED
2) Colorimetric RI; In-Gamut color
* Gamut Alarm: flag DOWN
* Color Alarm: flag DOWN
3) Perceptual RI: Source In-Gamut color whose Destination color has been
moved via Tonal Mapping
* Gamut Alarm: flag DOWN
* Color Alarm: flag RAISED
Gamut alarms should only be asked questions they were built to answer. We
wouldn't go to a Tax accountant and ask about the meaning of Life.
Similarly, if you want to know if a color is "reproduced accurately", go
ask a Color Alarm. A gamut alarm should only indicate whether a given
source color is in or out of gamut, nothing more.
