If your budget in the $1000 range then the NEC 2190UXi and Eizo CE210W are
hard to beat right now. Both feature 21" viewing areas - NEC slightly bigger
at 21.3" and 1600x1200 - versus Eizo's 21.1 and 1680x1050 max. resolution.
Both are hardware calibratable - NEC has a 12-bit LUT - and Eizo with a
10-bit LUT
Viewing angles are the same at 178' - NEC uses a Dual S-IPS panel (SA-SFT) -
Eizo uses a S-PVA panel. While normally S-IPS panels are generally thought
to be better at color accuracy & view angles then S-PVA panels - Eizo has
developed highly advanced processors that compensate for and improve on the
typical S-PVA characteristics.
Display Software - Eizo comes bundled with their Color Navigator - while the
NEC SpectraView II calibration software is an additional $170 I believe.
There are of course other less expensive 3rd party hardware calibratable
display softwares like BasICColor Display or Colorvision.
Warranties - Eizo is 5 years - while NEC is 4 Years.
Street Prices are slightly less for the NEC 2190UXi ($950) vs Eizo CE210W
($1110) - when one factors in the SpectraView II software then the price
differences are small.
The LaCie that Rodger mentions - LaCie 321 - has exactly the same specs as
the NEC 2190UXi (I believe it is the same panel from NEC) - but is much more
expensive at $1400.
