I need to prepare a file for a customer that is going to be sent to a
company called Magic Vinyl Printing, to be made into an eight foot
by 10
foot wide trade show banner, printed on a Vutek 5300.
QUESTION: Is anyone familiar with the Vutek, and could recommend a
CMYK
colorspace to separate to?
For optimal quality VuTeks have to be carefully calibrated and
profiled in the RIP they are using to drive it. It will do a color
space transformation no matter what color space you provide. Since
this vendor may not be smart enough to enable any "honor embedded
profiles" features in the RIP, a good SWOP CMYK profile is you best bet.
Of course, if this vendor isn't smart enough to calibrate and profile
his equipment you may get less than optimal results no matter what you
do. Choose your vendors wisely. Send an evaluation image out for print
samples if possible.
