where can I find informations about the paper grades used in the SWOP publications (they differ from the ISO paper classifications, e.g. the ISO paper type 5 is *uncoated* yellowish)

The downloadable PDF at http://www.swop.org/specification/ goes into some detail about the characterizations of the papers, including the actual ones they supposedly used on the press runs. I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind, but its something.

thanks :-) unfortunately there are no references in this paper appart from this note in brackets "... a # 5 sheet (ISO Grade 5 paper)"

I stumbled across "SWOP #5 groundwood coated publication printing sheet"

Just for the edification of everyone here, where exactly can we find detailed information about the ISO paper classifications?

AFAIK in ISO 12647-2 (I don't have it here)

here is a short excerpt from the bvdm MediaStandard Print 2006:
<http://www.bvdm-online.de/Aktuelles/Downloads.php>

Offset printing: 4 printing conditions, cf. ISO 12647-2

The info files for the eci profiles (<http://www.eci.org/eci/de/060_downloads.php#000330>, "ECI_Offset_2007.zip" contain some additional information

and also in the ICC characterisazion data registry <http://color.org/drsection1.xalter> one can find some details.

I once had a whitepaper about the ISO paper types, but I can't find it anymore.
