sRGB is cool, but I'd like to see users have the capacity to profile their monitors quickly for extra accuracy on a site.
As it happens, we've just launched a new solution which might fit your needs:
http://www.calibrize.com
Calibrize is a free utility for calibrating a monitor. It functions similar to Adobe Gamma or the Apple calibration utility, though a bit simpler to use because it saves some of the user input by reading out EDID data. It offers a 3-step calibration process which will result in the LUT values getting adjusted and installation of a proper profile. You may embed a small icon on your webpage to point towards Calibrize.
Calibrize is obviously not a high-end calibration solution. But it does at least bring the user into the right color ballpark. We originally developed Calibrize as a simple tool for the users of our own color visualization software, because very few of them had even heard of color management. We now offer Calibrize for free to the whole web community. It is supported by non-intrusive ads appearing in the application window.
Come to mention it: the Calibrize adspace offers a first class opportunity to any company aiming to sell higher-end color management solutions. After all, once there is awareness of the issue, people might actually choose to invest in a better solution....
