The "why not" is because I don't know how to do this. When I select 5500K from the popup menu and ProfileMaker Pro gets to the screen to adjust the white point--while measuring the result--how do I make this adjustment? I don't have any controls to change the RGB individually, which is what PMP is expecting me to do. If I can set a white point in the display or graphics card video LUTs, then how do I go about this with PMP and and Apple Cinema Display?
Thanks.

Why not ? You can set a white point using the display or graphics card
Video LUTs on an LCD, just like a CRT, and just like a CRT you will
lose some brightness and (possibly) level resolution in the process,
but there are no other alternatives if you're LCD doesn't have an RGB LED
back light.
