This may reflect the behaviour of the the calibration system more than the copier.
Our experience with our calibration system was that it achieved pretty good results
over a wide range of different units of the same machine (ie. within a couple of delta E),
although there were minor differences that a calibration could not correct.
Of course you are out of luck if a particular unit is unable to reach
the target maximum density.
