Well, how about integrating a visual calibrator with the browser
somehow?
Maybe a wizard upon installation and update of the browser that
strongly
suggests the user go through a visual calibration process? It would
be
better than no profile, or EDIDs currently.
There is already the visual calibration utility on the Mac (though
buried a bit in the system preferences) and Calibrize for Windows (www.calibrize.com
). But Calibrize uses Edid input as well.
Actually...
Last year we explored the possibility of producing a wizard that would
run in the browser. The idea was to make a hybrid on/off line
application that could be embedded in a website but would still be
able to change the LUT locally. I don't exactly remember the solution
the engineers came up with. But there sure was a (somewhat creative)
solution. The problem though was not in engineering but in funding.
The project was first sponsored by one of the world's largest monitor
manufacturers. But after a switch in management at the sponsor, the
project got dropped. Only after that (januari 2008) we released
Calibrize 2.0, which is not nearly as cool as the online app would
have been.
So if anyone out there has deep enough pockets, you can drop me a
note. ;-)
