While I have no qualms with any of the other [deleted] aspects of Harold's letter, I'm not sure about the following sentence of the paragraph quoted below (or maybe I'm just misunderstanding).

>Requirements of smoothness and continuity in all the separations require any black generation strategy to be global in scope.

It seems to me that there are different types of images that are optimized by different types of separation: screen captures or other types of images that fare best with a maximum black separation; 4-color grayscales, toned or neutral, that may benefit from a heavier-than-usual black generation; and perhaps other specific images that may benefit from a separation that incorporates heavier black generation (to add insurance against on-press casting) or lighter black generation (to eliminate black in key color ranges).

Does that conflict with the statement above?
