Several years ago, a paper was presented at TAGA regarding the
differences in UCR and GCR. The conclusions they came away with were: in
ProfileMaker, UCR results in the same separation as GCR level 1, and
both terms (UCR and GCR) should probably be replaced with another term,
like Compensation by Black (CB) in order to clarify exactly what's
happening.

A PDF of the paper by Emmi Enoksson and Anders Bjurstedt, both of the
Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden:

Conclusions begin on page 18.

Todd,

Does anybody know of a better way to create quadtone profiles? Am I
crazy to want a quadtone option in my profiling application?

A collection of ICC profiles that creates a quadtone and several
duotones are available from www.isisimaging.com. They require
grayscale as the image source. One set of ICC profiles matches the
Photoshop generic duotones and another set adds several other duotone
colors. The ICC quadtone profile is for MIS inkset.
