The 9600 is an old printer that you connected to a computer running "beta" software. I doubt Epson is going to spend much time updating drivers for obsolete equipment. Your observations might be more meaningful if you had purchased a 9880.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Very nice hardware. Bad software.

RECOMMENDATION: Epson should realize that their hardware is only as
good as the drivers. Which need to be reworked for usability and
functionality.
