Hi John,
I usually avoid responding to these forums in order to avoid lengthy emails
and pointless conversations.
I apologise for slightly misleading you, I was ebbing on the side of brevity
in my response and as such purposefully missed out on many important and
lengthy descriptions of print trivia. Sometimes, it is what we don't say
that makes the difference and on this occasion you read my message very well
(-: DLP's are the answer, I agree wholeheartedly.
The other factor is press calibration which you obviously have done a great
job on and hence your more than acceptable result on press.
It should be noted that my previous comments were based on information given
in the original post, observing the dot gain difference between AM and FM
screening without any separation adaption. In the case of NPDC adaption
there would have been compensation for both Dot Gain and Grey response from
the press and as such the separation or CMYK numbers of the clients file
would have been altered to meet the print condition standard. Any common
separation needs to be changed, no matter by what method (ICC, DLP or RIP
curve or all of the above), to meet the print condition otherwise you will
not get the expected result.
Does this make more sense, less ambiguous?
All the best
