I was never impressed with the Spyder 2 (and yes I have one). I would have
liked to be impressed with the Spyder 3 but alas, CV seems to think some of
us pick on them when in fact, I'd be more than happy to report good things
when (WHEN) I see it. Case in point. This last week I was in Seattle
teaching a CMS class at the Art Wolfe Digital school. We had a user with a
new MacBook Pro (LED screen), the calibration from an EyeOne Display (Rev A
to be fair) made an awful profile. The EyeOne Pro Spectrophotometer did the
job. It would have been useful to have had the opportunity to see if the
newer Spyder 3 with all the extra filters would have done a good job. Might
have sold a few products. But heck, its their (Color Vision's) marketing. If
they don't want to be totally open to those in the industry who write or
teach (as X-Rite GMB is to a huge degree), their loss.
I can't speak to the differences in quality and time spent on either the
newer Spyder printing profile package or the older. But as I wrote, that's
primarily due to CV.
