Hi Folks,
Here is a quick review of the ColorMunki from my experience with the
latest (shipping?) software.
The interface is sparse and easy to navigate with helpful videos accessible
from within the GUI to illustrate what the heck to do.
The monitor profile I made was pretty good on par with other options
shipping today. The ColorMunki software did not recognize my Eizo CG monitor
but then again I don¹t think the target market is going to have Eizo self
calibrating displays with a $500.00 color management solution. So the lack
of support of Eizo DDC isn¹t a problem IMO.
The printer profiling is a two step process. First you print out a 50 patch
chart, measure, and then the software creates a second target (possibly)
based on the first measurement data. A total of 100 patches are measured
during the two step process. Frankly, I didn¹t even notice measuring 50
patches at a time since there are five columns of 10 patches each. I was
sloppy in measuring on purpose and the ColorMunki was very forgiving unlike
other devices we are familiar with using.
So how the quality? Well it¹s on par with the target market for sure.
Definitely a very acceptable print by most standards. For a color
professional this is not going to be a tool to consider, but the target
market of amateurs, consumers, and designers this will be a great way to get
more than pleasing color easily.

Epson UC printer (not K3)
Epson Luster 250 paper
Epson print driver (RGB)
So if you want pleasing color without a lot of fuss or expense, then this
solution will work well. If you need improved accuracy for proofing and/or
support with a RIP for linearization then other options from X-Rite are
better suited for you.
