Lots of feedback from people on un-eveness across the display.

getting one but have heard that they cannot be tightly calibrated.


There isn't much to calibrate, mostly just profiled.

Also appreciate
any suggestions of a better way to go for similar price.

How old are the Cinema displays now - 4 years? That's pretty ancient technology these days. I would have a close look at the new NEC that's been announced in the 30" arena:
