Hi David,

pretty simple: max. luminance in cd/sqm divided by min. luminance.
You can see that black has an extreme influence on the contrast ratio. Since our desktop instruments are least accurate in the dark area, I wouldn´t attach too much importance to this contrast ratio numbers.

In that screen capture, you have 100:1 contrast ratio (70 divided by 0.7). IF you calibrated to say 90cd/m2, and assuming as I would expect, the black would be the same, the contrast ratio would be 128.
