Considering the effort in time to release ColorMunki, the fact that there
have been more mergers of companies and the recent number of employees that
were laid off, I don't know anyone should hold their breath here in terms of
a major Pro package nor the above recommendations. Currently, both
ProfileMaker Pro and PROFILER work (an Intel version would be nice for
speed, it takes longer for PMP to generate a profile then measure the target
with an iSis). I'd also hate to see X-Rite rush to market new software! They
get about a C grade in terms of what they did in the ColorMunki software, do
you really want them to rush a Pro package because the core group they
SHOULD be listening to are now suggesting to their customers they buy
another product? Especially when the current solutions are working?
I don't see why we should throw the baby out with the bath water here. What
X-Rite should be doing, is having some serious conversations with end users
about what they should do in terms of software, and not build a newer
product in somewhat of a vacuum as they did with ColorMunki. Open beta at
some point (ala Adobe)? Sure. I also don't want to see the "Not invented
here" syndrome. There's some seriously useful functionality in the GMB
software, some seriously good color science (color engine) from PROFILER. We
need the mix to be appropriate and well thought out.
