I don't know anyone should hold their breath here in terms of
a major Pro package nor the above recommendations.
Pushing MP technology forward has been in the works for many years now
and that hasn't been happening in a complete vacuum. The munki is the
first product that shows that effort. Releasing Powermunki-pro
software (let's call it) a few months later doesn't seem out of line.
In 2006 we were told not to hold our breath in 2007 but it's mid 2008
now.
Currently, both ProfileMaker Pro and PROFILER work (an Intel version
would be nice for
speed, it takes longer for PMP to generate a profile then measure
the target
with an iSis).
MP is surprisingly fast on Intel and makes profiles (especially RGB)
faster than an iSis can measure. SpectralVision is Intel native so you
know they've got an Intel native version of MP's output engine at
least. I could understand why they might skip Universal Binary
releases of PMP and MP so they can concentrate on powermunki-pro.
I'd also hate to see X-Rite rush to market new software!
I agree they shouldn't rush but Marco's point is that it's the
*silence* that's frustrating. We all need to to make informed
decisions and knowledgeable recommendations to our clients.
Especially when the current solutions are working?
PMP and MP both 'work' but the more I use them the more we I see they
could improve.
Open beta at some point (ala Adobe)?
Thanks for suggesting that!
