Hi Larry,
Yes, I do use the work-around you describe. My point was that I wish I could
just print from AI directly to the RIP.
It seems to me that color managed printing is broken in more ways than Tom
Lianza's post described. Not just printing to RGB printer drivers, printing
via a RIP can also be problematic. There are these issues of Postscript
limitations - Adobe promises their PDF Print Engine, or whatever it's called
will fix this (do you suppose vendors will pay licensing for Postscript &
additional for this PDF PE?).
Photoshop LightRoom is another issue - even though it's output is all
raster, there does not seem to be a way to print directly to X-Proof from
LR, either. Works great printing to RGB drivers, but again, I have to print
to pdf & send that to X-Proof to get anything close to acceptable output.
Why? Is this another case of print being broken?
I hope you keep developing your product, especially since I seem to be
getting more dependent on it for good output! (and it would be great if you
could figure out how to print LightRoom output, maybe from LR v.2? ;-)
Regards,
John Lund
