How exactly is one supposed to be able to "calibrate" to some unknown
condition at some level of degradation from the only seemingly
repeatable state?
Do you measure the fall off and average the midrange of the conditions
between optimal and poor?
Or do you simply rely on the press operators to proclaim the press to
be in it's average state and calibrate when they have arbitrarily
picked a state they "feel" is average.
With the vast number of variables on an offset press this truly sounds
like trying to nail jello to the wall.

Several times I have read that the pressroom had the opinion that
the press should be in its average state while another member of the

It seems to me that this dilemma is self-solving. Is the purpose of
the "calibration" for certification, or is the "calibration" for the
purpose of running real jobs? The pressroom understands that the
press operates at non-optimum conditions for the majority of time.
If G7 "calibration" is to be performed under optimum conditions,
then the best explanation to the press room is that:
a. You expect the press to always be running in optimum condition
OR
b. That this calibration is only for passing a test.
I suspect that there may be some odd looks in response to "a".
