I'd be interested in hearing comments/opinions on the flaws of the
standard observer model (2 and /or 10 degree).
The following articles from the just concluded CIC16 may be of
interest to you then:
Physiologically-Based Color Matching Functions,
Andrew Stockman, University College London (UK)
and
Method for Optimizing the Human Observer Functions,
Christopher J. Edge, Eastman Kodak Company (USA).
Andrew Stockman's review paper was particularly interesting, as
he derives a new set of 2 degree observer matching functions
from the Stiles and Burch 10 degree measurements. The original
paper referred to is: A. Stockman, and L. T. Sharpe, “Spectra
sensitivities of the middle and long-wavelength sensitive cones
derived from measurements in observers of known genotype,”
Vision Research, 40, 1711-1737 (2000).
I understand that Stockman has a method for deriving
CMFs tuned for any given field of view and observer age.
From the paper, these new "Stockman and Sharp" fundamentals
are to be recommended by the CIE Technical Committee 1-36 as
an international standard for Colorimetry: CIE, [Fundamental
chromaticity diagram with physiological axes – Parts 1 and 2.
Technical Report 170-1] Central Bureau of the Commission
Internationale de l' Éclairage, Vienna(2007).
