Two things somewhat connected somewhat disparate> high bit colour mapping,
and secondly high bit masking.
Previous Epson K3+VM inksets would not likely have much improvement with
higher bit paths.
The new HD inkset though would benefit from certain contouring with high bit
separations, and depending on what is new in the masking, could also see
some better output.
One thing is certain; it will be an advantage based on image content, and
only so if it was maintained from it's source throughout output.
What is nice , is it is now available for those to use if they are truly
seeking the highest level possible. In the future I can imagine better
masking algorithms could be made to harness the high bit colour path, to do
both smoothing and contrast in ways that were not possible before this new
hardware and software were available.
