Hello,
May I direct you to my Halftone Technology Guide at my website: www.isisimaging.com
. Halftone is all about frequency and amplitude. A monitor's bit-depth
describes the amplitude of the pixel not the frequency of the pixels.
The halftone bit-depth you guys are talking about also describes
amplitude, not frequency. Since frequency is higher in a printer than
in a monitor, then the amplitude can be lower yet the quality equal.
(An inkjet halftone can have 1-bit depth with tremendous frequency
providing high quality. A traditional cluster dither describes each
cluster as amplitude and if the frequency is high enough the result is
high quality.)
Would 16-bit improve the printer's quality? Yes, if the frequency is
very low and half-bitting is used. Without knowing the dot frequency
this isn't a meaningful question.
