If you use a digital camera and capture raw images, here is an opportunity
to contribute to an international standards effort. ISO TC130 JWG9 is
responsible for developing Part 5 of ISO 12640. The title of this
standard is Graphic technology - Prepress digital data exchange - Part 5:
Scene-referred standard colour image data (RIMM/SCID).
This is a standard being developed jointly by TC130 (Graphic technology)
and TC42 (Photography) to provide a
data base of images that can be used for testing and evaluation of image
conversion technology.
It will include electronic files of a set of images containing
scene-referred image data. That is the images will be estimates of the
scene, as opposed to the colorimetry of a picture of the scene. One of the
challenges facing the working group is the collection and selection of a
relatively large body of images for inclusion in this standard.
As a result we are asking the imaging community for assistance in
collecting images that can be included in the selection process. The
criteria for these images are:
1. Images must be at least 6 mega-pixels in size
2. They must be recorded as camera raw files
3. The camera used must be identified by brand and model, and
preferably is color characterized.
4. A photographer copyright release must be available, and if there
are recognizable people in the image a model release must be available.
5. The image content should be unique as the goal is to include a
wide variety of scene content and characteristics in the standard image
set (gamut, spectral characteristics, scene luminance and dynamic range,
etc.)
If you have images that meet these criteria, and that you would be willing
to contribute, please send an e-mail to Hitoshi Urabe at
email@hidden. The E-mail should contain your contact
information, a description of the image(s), availability of calibration
data, and a low resolution (600 x 800 pixels) 8-bit JPG file of the image
processed using some raw conversion software. If you could create the low
resolution image as a scene-referred image that would be most useful.
If Hitoshi Urabe feels that your image will be useful to consider as part
of the image selection process for the standard, he will provide
instructions for an FTP site to which the full resolution camera raw file
and associated paperwork can be transferred.
Thank you for your potential involvement.
