If you select "Printer Manages Colors" Photoshop (and possibly the driver) will insert Postscript color information along with the image data in an attempt to give the RIP more information regarding the source space of the data.
I suspect mis-interpretation of that additional source information is in the RIP rather than the driver or Photoshop.
"No Color Management" removes that data and the RIP is left to its own internal devices to determine/set the source color space and convert accordingly. You may want to look into the behavior of the RIP in regards to the default source space of incoming images.
When you print directly on the RIP or drop TIFF files into a hot folder, the Postscript wrappers are left out, so the problem is eliminated.
