Nvidia control panel

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the Nvidia control panel
that can be used to control some graphics card functions can
interfere with monitor calibration.
The card is the Nvidia GEForce 7900GS, 256MB, driver version 9.1.4.7
I have a client running a new Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP on a Widows XP
system (service pack 3, 2GB Ram, 2CPU) and the monitor is displaying
"Hyper Colour". Way over saturated reds, oranges, blues and greens
and I have found it impossible to calibrate using an i1Display 2
system. Part way through the calibration routine when displaying the
coulour patches the black background lightens to a dark magenta/
mauve colour and the resulting calibration curves are wildly
distorted. I wonder if there is some competition going on for loading
LUTs to the video card.
I have run Startup Control Panel and there is no Adobe Gamma loading
that I can see but there are three bits of software associated with
Nvidia being loaded. They are:nwiz, NvMediaCenter and NvCpDaemon. I
believe these are associated with the Nvdia Control panel and am
inclined to disable them.
As an aside, when Windows starts up the Start bar and Start button
looks the normal colour initially and then changes to a really rich
blue and green suggesting that something is being loaded as Windows
initializes.
Any suggestions? Is the control panel necessary for photo editing
applications or is it only for overclocking and gaming/video
applications? I was going to remove it completely to see if it solves
the problem.
Before the client bought the Dell, he had another brand monitor which
exhibited similar over saturated characteristics which leads me to
think it is the card/software rather than the monitor.
Regards
Simon
